Can I show proof of insurance on my phone during a Florida traffic stop?
Yes. Florida Statute §316.646 recognizes electronic proof of insurance, so an image or app on your phone is valid at a traffic stop. If an officer will not accept it, Sabrina's advice is to stay calm, mention the statute once, and avoid escalating the encounter. If you are cited anyway, take the ticket and challenge it in court, where the electronic proof can be presented. Arguing at the roadside rarely helps and can make the stop worse.

I had a great question the other day asking, what happens if an officer refuses to accept electronic proof of insurance at a traffic stop. Excellent question. First things first, stay calm, stay cool. Let the officer know, under Florida Statute 316.646, electronic proof of insurance is totally valid. And if the officer is still giving you a hard time, just take that ticket, wish him a good day, and then fight it in court. And in case you're wondering, yes, I do fight tickets in court.
